Why I chose this photo? It captures my passion for helping people make breakthroughs by seeing new perspectives and tapping the creativity of play. And yes, that's me doing the cartwheel!
I am practice capoeria, an Afro-Brazillian art form developed by enslaved people to disguise their martial arts practice as dance. Capoeira combines many skills -- gymnastics, non-contact kick boxing, improvisation, dance, singing and playing instruments. We "play" in a circle. Our community is multi-cultural. Practicing capoeira reminds me how to meet different partners where they are at and how it feels to be the beginner rather than the expert.
In both my capoeira and my consulting, I follow the advice of my Mestre to "focus on being 1% better every day."
